Chief of Child Neurology: New Children's Hospital, Academic Setting, Close to Metropolitan Areas
West Virginia University Rockefeller Neuroscience Center Department of Neurology and WVU Medicine Children's seek a Division Chief of Child Neurology qualified for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank. The successful candidate will practice in Morgantown, WV.
The primary responsibilities of the division director are to provide administrative and financial leadership and to define and implement the educational, research/ scholarly, and clinical service missions of the division and department. Clinical duties include outpatient clinic and inpatient consults. Participation in our growing Children's Neuroscience Center of Excellence is anticipated. In addition to providing excellent patient care, the successful candidate will also be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.
Our new WVU Medicine Children's Hospital opened in September 2022, and is the premier site within the state for primary through tertiary care of children. The WVU Medicine Children's Neuroscience Center consists of the divisions of child neurology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, psychology, neuropsychology, neurodevelopment, neuroradiology, neuro-oncology, physiatry and rehabilitation medicine. The Children's Neuroscience Center and WVU Health System maintain a Cerebral Palsy and Spasticity Clinic, Level IV Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, Neurodevelopmental Center, movement disorders and telehealth programs.
The Department of Neurology and Division of Child Neurology have close working relationships with colleagues in the pediatric surgical subspecialties, pediatric neuropsychology, and neuroradiology. This focus on comprehensive care embodies the WVU Medicine Children's commitment to providing excellent clinical care to the children of West Virginia, a collegial academic environment that fosters professional growth, and high-quality teaching to our students and house staff.
WVU Medicine's state-of-the-art, new 150-bed Children's Hospital has a full suite of pediatric operating rooms, cardiac catheterization lab/interventional radiology, GI-endoscopy with dedicated pediatric anesthesia staff, and the only epilepsy monitoring unit in the state equipped to serve children. The hospital includes 34 pediatric beds, 54 NICU beds, 26 PICU beds, Heart Center, and a dedicated Cancer Center. WVU Medicine Children's is a Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center, with plans to become Level 1, as it is for adults currently. We have a Birthing Center including a 30-bed obstetrical unit and maternal-fetal medicine clinic. J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital is the only hospital in West Virginia with a pediatric cardiac surgery program, and the only hospital in the state to receive Magnet status for nursing excellence.
The Division of Child Neurology joins in the collaborative efforts of the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, which is made up of a team of 280 dedicated faculty in Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neuroradiology, and Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry. RNI provides compassionate patient care and advanced medicine through education, research, and outreach in the many diverse communities we serve. The Institute spearheads efforts to develop innovative solutions for neurological and psychiatric conditions across the lifespan.
