Position Title: SBA Business Development Officer

Business Unit: Commercial Banking

Reports to: SBA Senior Sales Manager

Position Overview:

This position is primarily responsible for developing new loan volume through the Small Business Administration (SBA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Business and Industry (B&I) loan programs. The incumbent makes continuous marketing efforts to establish contacts and leads in order to generate a strong referral network, establishes effective and efficient work processes with external/internal partners to identify new SBA prospects, converts prospects to applications and manages the loan through the credit and closing processes.

Primary Responsibilities:

Reads and understands the SBA standard operating procedures (SOP), develops a successful business plan and wins business based upon building value, loan structure and relationship development, not rates and fees. Develops marketing strategies using all available resources to identify markets to penetrate for new business and builds a solid contact base of current and potential referral sources.

Develops effective and efficient processes to manage loan pipeline and submits applications in a timely manner. Reviews entire loan process from application to closing and sets and manages expectations. Provides a complete and well thought-out package to Credit.

Keeps the borrower/ business partner and referral sources well-informed and sets and maintains the proper expectations. Works in conjunction with Small Business and Commercial Banking lines of business for referrals and supporting their customers' needs. Develops and nurtures effective working relationships with internal partners.

Identifies closing issues that may negatively impact the loan request, provides borrower/business partner with correct preliminary closing checklist based on type of loan and transaction. Assists closing in the collection of needed documentation, either by explaining to the borrower and referral source why it is needed, or collecting it.

Understands the Bank's credit guidelines, determines loan eligibility per the current SBA SOP and structures a financing package to meet the needs of the borrower/business partner meeting all credit guidelines for the loan to be closed.

Reads and interprets business tax returns and identifies use of proceeds, cash flow and collateral coverage. Reads and interprets business financial statements, business plans and financial projections and ensures completeness and efficacy.

Reads and interprets personal tax returns, personal financial statements, credit reports, Dun & Bradstreet reports and other financial data needed to complete the loan application.

May manage a Sales Assistant (at management's discretion if production is warranted and specific criteria is met).

Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.

Minimum 5 years experience in Guaranteed Government Lending. Thorough knowledge of SBA Standard Operating Procedures. Experience with banking-related software and systems.
