Performs a full range of screening and diagnostic imaging procedures to provide optimum information for the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Completion of a two year American Medical Association approved course in Radiologic Technology or other accredited and approved medical imaging program.

2. Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 30 days of hire.

3. ARRT Certification in Radiology.

4. Obtain ARRT Certification in Mammography within one (1) year of hire.

5. West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology State Licensure.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Two (2) years' experience in Radiography.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. ARRT Certification in Mammography upon hire.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties.Other duties may be assigned.

1. Plans the performance of the imaging procedure based on needs of the patient.

2. Positions and compresses the patient accurately for procedure and fully images all breast tissue.

3. Minimizes radiation exposure to patients and staff by shielding and correctly selecting exposure factors.

4. Evaluates images for compliance with protocol, image density, contrast, detail, positioning, compression and absence of image artifact. Assures proper patient identification appears on every image.

5. Educates patient regarding mammographic procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions accordingly.

6. Documents imaging activities accurately and consistently in accordance with ACR and federal mandates.

7. Maintains current file of patient reports that reflect return date for recommended follow up procedures. Alerts Radiologists when recommended follow up procedures have not been scheduled.

8. Engages in problem solving, crisis management, and systems implementation with physicians, nursing, technical and support personnel throughout the hospital.

9. Performs a full range of mammographic imaging quality control tests in accordance with the manufacturer and documents them in the Mammography Quality Control Test binder.

10. Displays imaging techniques, patient care and guest relation behaviors in accordance with standard policies and procedures.

11. Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification.

12. Maintains clean, neat and well-stocked procedure area.

13. Prepares contrast agents, specific pharmaceuticals and sterile trays and devices for invasive mammographic procedures.

2. Stands and walks for up to 12 hours a day.

4. Maintains knowledge in anatomy, physiology and pathology relative to imaging in order to optimize the procedure and ensure patient care/safety.
