Job Description
What You Will Do:

Our Geotechnical Practice is currently seeking a entry-level Geotechnical Engineer to join the Pittsburgh, PA office. This individual will assist in the geotechnical investigation, analysis, design and construction observation of a wide variety of projects including water resources, dams, flood control, water supply, transportation and mine subsidence.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform field reconnaissance and exploration boring observation over rough terrain and steep slopes
  • This individual will assist with geotechnical investigations, analyses, designs and construction observation for a wide variety of projects including water resources, dams, flood control, water supply, transportation and mine subsidence
  • Assist in the planning of subsurface exploration and laboratory testing investigations
  • Design and analyze shallow and deep foundations for highway bridges and major hydraulic structures
  • Perform analyses for: stability and seepage of earthen embankments, settlement estimates, lateral earth pressure for retaining walls, and ground improvements for complex sites
  • Perform geotechnical foundation analyses for building structures, bridge structures and highways
  • Preparation of geotechnical engineering reports, design drawings, and specifications
  • Provide construction observation support during the construction phase of various projects
Education | Experience:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering is required; Master's Degree with a Geotechnical focus preferred.
  • A geotechnical focus or previous geotechnical internship experience required
  • Passed Fundamentals of Engineering exam is preferred.
  • 1-5 years of geotechnical experience with an emphasis on dam engineering design and water resources projects is preferred
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D or MicroStation and Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Experience with geotechnical software including: Slope/w, Seep/w, Sigma/w, HEC-RAS, STABL, LPILE, GRLWEAP, DARWIN, GROUP, ReSSA, and gINT is preferred
  • Field experience with construction observation activities such as pile driving, drilled shaft and driven pile installations, earthwork and shoring is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and report/proposal writing skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Must be comfortable around large equipment, highway traffic, deep water, and remote terrain
