About the Opportunity

This is an open position within generation at Mon Power, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [MP]

This position is located at Fort Martin Power Station, Mon Power's territory.

For First Energy, the Senior Generation Specialist is an integral part of the team at a Regulated, Base-Load Generating Station. Besides enjoying upper tier benefits: this person will be developed to become a member of the stations Technical Service's Team - Who's involvement includes monitoring the condition of the generation electrical equipment while providing both operational and maintenance support. Equipment includes generators, exciters, precipitator controls, motors, transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, protective relays, control relays, distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers, (PLC) and other related electrical equipment and instrumentation and controls.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and using graphic displays to use as diagnostic tools.
  • Investigating and resolving any system malfunctions
  • Advising and assisting the technician level employees with the configuration, programming and troubleshooting as required.
  • Involved on all upgrades (DCS, PLC, flame scanners, etc.) and system improvements.
  • Assessing operating condition and developing plans for continued health and operation including technical direction of repairs.
  • Assisting with solving operational issues that can be addressed with proper planning and execution of planned work and/or projects to correct inefficiencies.
  • Preparing financial justifications.
  • Coordinating activities of other technical services personnel on the team.
  • Conducting research and beginning to improve work processes, analyze data and begin to develop and recommend solutions

Qualifications:

  • Four (4) years electrical technology
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the DCS and PLC areas preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in programming and configuring logic preferred.
  • Familiar with Industry Standards and how to research them.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes as they relate to plant operations and maintenance is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to work effectively with and lead cross functional teams.
  • Ability to work safely, promote teamwork and work collaboratively to achieve team goals.
  • Self-starter, able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge of various, Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Able to lead contractors and promote good working relationships between departments and the ability to work extended hours as necessary to meet deadlines and to ensure resolution of plant problems.
  • Able to work extended when needed and off hours and must be willing to respond to equipment related issues on a twenty-four (24) hour basis.
