Job Summary

An Estimator/Engineer is responsible for developing project cost estimates for various projects that requires a knowledge of the work being performed and the ability to do quantity take-offs from the available documents and enter those into a standardized database. The estimates will need to be organized to meet the Company's and clients' expected structure.

Essential Functions

  • Actively supports the Company's commitment to safety and its "Core Values."

  • Maintains quality service by following the standard of ethics and integrity laid down in company policy and ensures that company information and information entrusted to us by our clients is kept with the appropriate level of confidentiality.
  • Prepares estimates by calculating takeoff elements of the work accurately and assigns them to the appropriate items in the database. Create and manage estimates across varying scopes and product lines to include API 620 Tanks, Cryo/Refrigerated Tanks, Thermal Vacuum Chambers and Balance of plan equipment. This includes, but not limited to the tank (s), foundations, platform and access, structural steel, electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical items associated with the project scope.
  • Solicits subcontract and vendor pricing utilizing uniform corporate structure.
  • Assists in the review of proposal documentation prior to issue. Assists with interpreting budgets, assisting with tracking of estimated equipment budges versus actual procured costs.
  • Provides technical support to Project and proposal teams.
  • Prepares work to be accomplished by organizing and gathering information for the estimate in a manner required to meet the needs of the project.
  • Performs work on multiple projects concurrently with ability to prioritize.
  • Reviews pertinent documentation and conducts site visit as necessary as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience in lieu of degree may be considered.
  • 2+ (3-5 years preferred) of appropriate field and/or office experience.
  • Ability to visualize the finished product from the drawings and other documents provided.
  • Familiarity with construction work and terminology.
  • Good basic mathematical comprehension.
  • Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated enthusiastic team player willing to work with others and adopt new ideas and methods.
  • Good computer skills including an operating knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Familiarity with estimating, project scheduling software (MS Project or Primavera) and databases will be an advantage.
  • This position may require occasional travel and extended workdays.
