Performs various duties related to patient care and treatment as directed by providers and registered professional technologist. Assists and provides support of patient care duties to enhance the effective and efficient delivery of radiology services for a full range of advanced medical imaging procedures including but not limited to the interventional radiology procedures. Performs preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative support activities to assist the nursing and technologist team caring for surgical patients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

3. Attend IV course within 60 days of hire.

EXPERIENCE:

1. One (1) year of experience in a clinical setting (i.e. MA, LPN, EMT).

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Supports the Radiologic Technologists in the planning and execution of imaging procedures meeting the standards of the department.

2. Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification.

3. Assists the patient, as applicable, in preparing for the procedure by assisting patient gowning, and transfer to exam table.

4. Coordinates the outpatient and inpatient department flow by maintaining communication between the department and patient floors.

5. Assesses the patient's needs related to comfort, and provides support accordingly.

6. Escorts the patient to and from the procedure suite and assists as needed with patient arrival and departure from the department.

7. Promotes the team approach to providing Radiology services by positively interacting with the technical, support, nursing, residents and medical staff.

8. Engages in problem solving, crisis management and systems implementation throughout the hospital to promote and support efficient, high quality, cost effective patient care.

9. Assists with room or bay set up. May monitor sterile field set up when directed by Registered Nurse or Technologist.

10. Assists in direct patient care by providing basic physical care to promote patient comfort as directed by the radiologic technologist.

11. Safely assists in the transport and handling of all patient according to WVUH'S patient handing policy, off all patient.

12. Performs assigned quality control testing and calibrations of equipment according to department policy.

13. Upon completion of competency, Performs routine IV placement for imaging procedures.

14. Obtains patient history and vitals prior to procedures.

15. Performs i-stat functions upon competency to include Point of Care Testing i-stats and glucose.

16. Observes and reports all patient concerns/changes in condition to a registered nurse immediately.

17. Assists technologist with examinations and procedures. To include, but limited to, groin prep, IV placement (select correct size and site for the various exams performed in Radiology), labs, POC testing).

18. Assists in maintaining a clean and safe environment to help prevent and/ or control infector to provide for safety of patient, visitors and employees.

19. Assists nurses in post-procedure care of the patient which may include total care within the scope of practice (stable patient's vital signs, activities of daily living, comfort measures).

20. Assists nurses in discharge of patients from the procedural area and/or Radiology Care Center.

21. Cleans procedure rooms between cases in IR and/or CT procedure rooms. Assists in maintaining a clean, sanitary and safe work environment; organization and cleaning of work areas, storage rooms, patient bays, and computers. Includes cleaning and preparation of work area for the next shift.

22. Participates in Inventory Management of the department to include stocking IR and CT procedure rooms.

23. Prepares entry site applicable to the procedure using sterile technique.

24. Mentors Radiology Tech Assistants during onboarding process.

1. Differentiate various shades of gray as depicted on a black and white television monitor or photograph.

2. Requires strength and or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, and walking. Handling of materials and equipment weighting up to 50 pounds. Pushing/ pulling carts weighting up to 200 pounds.

3. Lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs.

4. Carry items of up to 20 lbs.

5. Stand and walk for 8 hours a day.

6. Required to wear lead for extended periods of time while standing.

1. Exposure to minimal radiation with in the national standards of occupational guidelines. Monitored by radiation safety and use of dosimeter.

2. Exposure to airborne particles and body fluids.

3. Operation of imaging equipment with automated moving parts.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Ability to interact positively with patients, families, and members of the health care team.

2. Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations simultaneously.

3. Ability to communicate with physicians and peers on a professional level

4. Knowledgeable in Sterile Technique.

5. Ability to improvise with altered positioning techniques, manipulation of the equipment, and accessory devices when routines positioning is compromised due to patient's condition, age, or ability.

6. Demonstrate competency in the use of safe patient handling equipment.
